A long time ago, in a forest not too far away …

Members of Focus Photography Club recently collaborated with the 501st Legion Causeway Garrison for an exciting and visually dynamic photoshoot set in the stunning Tollymore Forest Park. Known for its cinematic landscapes and towering trees, the park served as the perfect backdrop for a Star Wars-themed shoot.

The 501st Legion, a Northern Ireland based Star Wars costuming organisation known for their screen-accurate replicas of Rebel and Imperial uniforms, brought an array of characters to life. Their presence in the forest created a surreal atmosphere, transforming the park into what felt like a scene straight from Endor. Our members took full advantage of the opportunity, experimenting with composition, lighting, and creative angles to capture both posed shots and candid, in-character moments.

Throughout the day, the collaborative spirit between our members and the cosplayers was evident. Posing suggestions, technical adjustments, and bursts of creativity flowed freely as both groups worked toward a shared vision. The 501st members brought exceptional dedication to their roles, holding character in challenging terrain and weather (it was very warm in the costumes), while the photographers adapted quickly to changing natural light and landscape features to get the perfect shot.

The shoot not only produced a compelling collection of images but also fostered a sense of community and mutual appreciation between Focus Photography Club and the 501st Legion. It was a celebration of fandom, creativity, and collaboration, highlighting how different artistic passions—photography and cosplay—can intersect in ways that are both inspiring and unforgettable. The event was a resounding success and has already sparked interest in future collaborative projects.
